Heifer Project at Christ the King

At Christ the King we have supported Heifer Project International since 1997, believing it is a wonderful organization to support and one that provides great service opportunities for our youth members.

Since 1944 Heifer Project International has helped more than one million families in 115 countries and 35 of the United States become more self-reliant through the gift of livestock and training in environmentally-sound farming. While we believe outright gifts of food are necessary in times of natural disaster, and we support these efforts as well, it is not a long-term solution to the hunger problem. We believe Heifer Project's methods offer hope for solving the poverty problem in the world.

Every spring, after a fundraising campaign, we visit their local farm in Rutland, MA with a group of Sunday School students and adults, to learn more about Heifer Project. We tour the farm, and do some actual farm work on this largely volunteer farm. Our students present the farm with a check for the money we have raised and get to see representative animals of those provided by Heifer Project to needy people. All our members go home after the workday with a great sense of satisfaction, knowing we have helped a great organization!

If you would like to learn more about Heifer Project, and how you or your organization can become involved, follow the link to the Heifer Project website, http:www.heifer.org. Our church was featured last year in an article that made the front page of the Nashua Sunday Telegraph. We hope to get a copy of this story to complete this page. Stay tuned! Lastly, watch your local TV station for the new public service announcement supporting Heifer Project and featuring actress Susan Sarandon, a longtime supporter of Heifer Project.
