Biography of William Peterson
2008-2009 Intern at Christ the King
William (Bill) Petersen is a a resident commuter student at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, seeking ordination with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. A native New Yorker, Bill was baptized at St John-St. Matthew-Emmanuel Park Slope, Brooklyn and confirmed at St. Timothy, Grand Island. A life-long Lutheran, he has been a member of congregations in New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
A trained Natural Church Development Coach, Bill has served as an active youth and adult lay leader at the congregation, conference and synod levels in Upstate New York and New England. His seminary field education experience was served at Messiah Lutheran Church, Amherst during Pastor Tom Teichmann's first year and at By the Way, Nashua the emergent mission start for young adults with Pastor Kari Keyl and Steve Kennedy. He served as a Hospital Chaplain completing Level I Clinical Pastoral Education at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA and Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, NH.
A passionate leader and teacher, Bill is the former Dean and Associate Professor of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Management at Southern New Hampshire University (1995-2006). He is a Certified Rooms Division Executive and Certified Hospitality Educator, holds a Bachelors Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Southern New Hampshire University and a Masters Degree in Management from Cambridge College. He has more than twenty years of lodging industry and higher education management and consulting experience.
Community service includes board membership and leadership on the Southern NH Convention & Visitors Bureaus, NH Technical Institute Advisory Board, State of New Hampshire Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (chair 2004-2005), Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, NH Philharmonic Orchestra, and founded the award winning Granite State Ambassadors, Inc. (president 1998-2008). Bill was recognized by Yankee Magazine with a Community Barn Raiser Award in 2003 and the Granite Pineapple Tourism Industry Leader Award in 2004. He and his wife Kay reside in Bedford.
