4-YEAR-OLD PROGRAMS
3-DAY OPTION This class is for 4-year-old children who are ready to expand their knowledge of letter recognition, numbers, colors, and basic skills as they prepare for kindergarten. The class meets M-W-F in the afternoons for 2 ½ hours. There are 20 children with 2 certified teachers in the program. Learning centers are introduced for small group listening and learning. Hands on learning through self-exploration of basic skills and art expression augment teacher directed activities. The goals for this class are for children to become more independent in self-help skills such as dressing, listening in a large group, following a 3 part direction, social skills, following classroom routines, and language development. The faith formation program SEEDS, which is begun in the 3-year-old program, is carried into his program. Prayer Bear and Chapel Time twice a month with Pastor Keyl are integrated into this program. Gross motor development through outside play and music and movement completes this learning experience. TRANSITIONAL 4-DAY OPTION (Beginning in September 2005) Older 4-year-old children and young 5's would benefit from this 4-day a week program, which is held for 2 ½ hours, Mon-Thurs. mornings. Children who turn 5 years old in the fall, just missing the cut-off date for kindergarten are good candidates for this class. Children in a transitional class will move toward goals similar to a kindergarten program but will do so as a modified pace. This class has 20 students with a certified teacher and an assistant. The class is geared to help children problem solve and learn basic educational skills that lay a foundation, which carry them for years to come. Learning is center based. The children move through learning centers that incorporate pre-academic skills, listening, language, and creative art expression. Learning centers provide small group learning and promote transitional skills. The faith formation program SEEDS, which is begun in the 3-year-old program, is carried into this program. Gospel lessons, Prayer Bear and Chapel Time twice a month with Pastor Keyl are integrated into this program. Gross motor development through outside play and music and movement completes this learning experience.
