Sabbatical Timeline


Preparing to take leave…

June 11th: Last Sunday before Sabbatical Bon Voyage Party for Pastor Tim, Kari, Gabe and Bethany


Emerging… “Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness” (Luke 4:1)

June 18th- 25th: Preparing and packing

June 25th- July 1st: The Keyl family travels to the Holy Land. Adjusting to another culture, time zone and climate, they explore on their own, greeting friends from the ELCJ and the Holy Land.


Engaging… “Now during those days, [Jesus] set out to the mountains to pray.” (Luke 6:12a)

July 2nd- 30th: (Bethany and Gabe return home on July 11th with Kari’s sister, Kim.) Pastor Tim and Kari will encounter the “living stones” that are the people of faith in Palestine/Israel. The Tantur Ecumenical Institute is a four-week program that balances learning, excursions, and time alone to explore, reflect and study.

July 30th- 31st: Last days in the Holy Land

August 1st: Pastor Tim and Kari fly back to Manchester

August 2nd- 4th: A few days to recuperate

Going to places apart… “Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up to the mountain to pray.” (Luke 9:28)

August 5th: The Keyl family flies to Seattle.

August 6th- 27th: HOLDEN VILLAGE (outside Chelan, Washington), is an ecumenical retreat center in the Lutheran tradition, located in a former copper mining colony in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State.


Excursion…

August 7th – September 3rd: Ferry from Seattle to Victoria and Vancouver Islands. Return by Amtrak train.

Re-emergence… “Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country.” (Luke 4:14)

September 3rd -17th: The Keyl children will begin school. Pastor will compile a report and prepare for re-mergence with prayer, reading and physical exercise.
