Part 2: HOLDEN VILLAGE, A RETREAT CENTER IN CHELAN, WASHINGTON
The Lilly Foundation has provided a grant for Clergy Renewal for Christ the King to enable me to take a journey of a lifetime, and also provides monies for pastoral leadership and congregational renewal during the sabbatical.
The sabbatical dates are June 18 through September 18, 2006, the summer season. Our Sunday Eucharist during this time will be at 9:00 am.
This month's installment of the series on sabbatical includes the portion of the grant proposal that describes a Lutheran Retreat Center in a remote area in central Washington, by Lake Chelan, in the Cascade Mountains. CtK's own Colin Campbell has been to Holden, and loves it! In April during Sunday Adult Forums, our guest, Wendell Beckman, will provide slides of his own experiences at Holden Village last summer.
At the March Cottage Meetings, I will be glad to speak in more detail about these plans!

"Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up to the mountain to pray" (Luke 9:28)
As Jesus took with him his closest disciples to encounter God, I plan to spend time apart with my family in the Cascade Mountains of Washing State. At Holden Village, in its dedication to living community, daily prayer, and justice keeping, a three-week stay will serve to provide rest and refreshment, and the time to reflect on my experiences in the Holy Land.
Holden's model of communal life, attention to the creation, and daily prayer will surely spill over in to new ways of understanding congregational life and ministry together.
Set within a remote former copper mining village, there is no phone or e-mail. The Keyl family will take in all the summer offerings at this retreat center, while recreating in the environment and book reading.
I will compile a description of the life at Holden to share with the congregation, and propose models from Holden that might mutually enrich the spiritual life of pastor and congregation.
