Pastoral Leadership during Sabbatical

Who will provide pastoral leadership while Pastor Keyl is away?

The Lilly Foundation has provided a grant for Clergy Renewal for Christ the King to enable me to take a journey of a lifetime, and also provides monies for pastoral leadership and congregational renewal during the sabbatical.

The sabbatical dates are June 18 through September 18, 2006, the summer season. Our Sunday eucharist during this time will be at 9:00 am.

Pastor Robert Goehrig, a retired ELCA pastor with homes in Holden, MA and York Beach, ME will lead eucharist and preach each Sunday during the sabbatical, and coordinate leadership in the event he is unable to attend. Pastor Goehrig recently provided interim ministry at Community Lutheran Church in Enfield, NH, and is married to Pastor Alice Kerr Laird, who is a ministry specialist for the New England Synod. Pastor Goehrig, along with area pastors, will also be available for pastoral emergencies.

Our Field Education Worker, Judy Converse, will take on a new role as Lay Minister during the summer. She will provide day-to-day administration, coordinate Sunday morning worship, and be the lead person for Summer Events such as Confirmation, the ELCA National Youth Gathering, and Vacation Bible School (tentatively scheduled for August 7-11). Judy will coordinate pastoral care and visitation, including bringing communion to our parishioners who are homebound and in care facilities. She will also take a leadership role in Fall planning.

At our Congregational Budget Meeting on January 22nd, Judy's position was approved as a 20 hour per week position, with half the funding coming from the Lilly Grant and half the funding coming from Christ the King.

We are privileged to welcome Pastor Goehrig as he shares his gifts, to continue to welcome Judy Converse's gifts, and to offer our own gifts in ministry during this summer time of renewal.
